Getting your Henderson collision report
For crashes inside city limits, the Henderson Police Department provides copies of traffic accident reports through its Police Records Section:
- Closed traffic accident reports can be requested online from the department’s Request Records page. Reports for crashes still under investigation are not available until the investigation is complete and the case is closed.
- The fee is $10 per traffic report. The department accepts credit cards (no American Express), personal checks, cash or money orders.
- The Records Section is at the East Police Station, 223 Lead St., Henderson, NV 89015, open Monday through Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
If the Nevada Highway Patrol investigated the crash, its report is requested through the NHP crash report request page using the NHP crash number, the last name of a person involved and the crash date. NHP charges $10 per report and says reports are available 7 to 14 days after the crash. Its Southern Command office is at 6830 Bermuda Road, Las Vegas, (702) 668-4100.

What a Henderson injury claim can cover
A personal injury claim can seek money for losses such as medical expenses, lost earnings, damage to your vehicle or other property, and pain and suffering. What a particular claim is worth depends on the injuries, the evidence and the insurance available, so we review each case individually and never promise a result.
How a Henderson personal injury case usually moves
- Free consultation. You tell us what happened and we explain your options. There is no attorney fee unless we recover compensation for you.
- Investigation. We gather the collision or incident report described above, photos, witness information and your medical records.
- Claim and negotiation. We present the claim to the insurance company and negotiate for a fair settlement.
- Government claim if needed. If the City of Henderson or another public agency may share responsibility, we prepare and file the claim within Nevada’s two-year deadline.
- Lawsuit if needed. If the case does not settle, we file a lawsuit in the proper Nevada court and keep pushing toward trial.
Deadlines and fault rules that apply to Nevada injury claims
- Two years to file a lawsuit. Nevada generally allows two years to bring an action for injuries to a person or for a death caused by the wrongful act or neglect of another (NRS 11.190(4)(e)).
- Two years for claims against a local government. A tort claim against a Nevada political subdivision, such as a city or county, must be filed with its governing body within two years after the cause of action accrues (NRS 41.036). Filing that claim is not a condition precedent to bringing a lawsuit, but the lawsuit itself is still subject to the two-year limit. Damages in these cases are generally capped at $200,000 per claimant, and punitive damages are not allowed (NRS 41.035).
- Partly at fault does not automatically mean no recovery. Under Nevada’s comparative negligence rule, your own negligence does not bar recovery if it was not greater than the negligence of the parties you are suing (NRS 41.141). The jury finds the total damages and the percentage of negligence attributable to each party.
